Right here goes – I didn’t become a full-time smoker until I was in my 30’s, I slowly became a heavy smoker in no time! I’m not much of a drinker, I avoid caffeine, salt and sugar so why start to smoke so late on?
But, after numerous attempts and relapses, I quit in the end! I went for a simple eye test a few years back and found out I had developed an eye condition. I know there are other reasons for this condition, but smoking contributed in a big way! You will always find an excuse to smoke but that cigarette won’t change anything other than your health.
I don’t want to say how long I’ve not smoked as I feel like I’m setting myself up to fail. Smokefree Liverpool have been brilliant support. I have had a few lapses here and there, but I fully support the programme as much as it supports me!
The temptation is always there, but choosing not to smoke is much more beneficial and the health benefits make it so worthwhile! If you have a lapse, don’t beat yourself up about it, it will just make you more determined on your next attempt! It took me years to get to this stage and after numerous attempts, it worked out! Be positive and keep going forward.
